Pod Mag is an alternative education magazine for kids, parents, and educators, inspired by my work as a Pod Teacher in 2020 during the days of the pandemic.
This magazine is a collection of stories, ideas, and activities that celebrate a modern model for small-group learning, and it seeks to reinvent the idea that traditional school education is the only model to cultivate curious children of all races, backgrounds, and learning styles.
To appeal to both children and adults, Pod Mag uses expressive type, an inviting color palette, and focuses on photography that celebrates the curiosity and humor of a child’s point of view.
I used typography to ground my concept through each spread, using type treatments that would also be pushing boundaries: glyphs running in the text, uber tight margins, colored type, and folios that bounce around.
