Held in Form, 2024

To sew one’s own clothes is to join a powerful and historical collective voice through craft. To understand a garment’s construction is to appreciate the love, care, and detail that each piece carries from its maker. —Izzy Walter

Made for the 2024 exhibition Perspectives: Art from MFA Staff, this textile composition draws on my craft as both a sewist and graphic designer to create an emergent art practice. By abstracting scaled-down pattern pieces from a handmade pajama set, I reimagine everyday garments—deconstructing functional forms into elemental parts to reveal their intrinsic beauty. Each core shape has an individual power—with slight alterations, each can contribute to the transformative power of clothing to celebrate and accentuate all bodies.
